The Gardens
Surround yourself with nature at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory ~ experience the Showcase Garden with its lush seasonal displays, wander through the Tropical Garden where orchids and palms thrive in the shadows of a cascading waterfall, or retreat to the quiet beauty of the Desert Garden.
Indoors
Our three indoor gardens cover 24,500 square feet and showcase over 2,000 plants from 100 plant families and nearly 1,000 varieties.
Showcase Garden ~ features four changing seasonal exhibits every year, plus permanent plants such as bamboo, loquat tree, gardenias, hibiscus, and creeping fig.
Tropical Garden ~ features a waterfall, a pond full of goldfish, 13 types of palms, and tropical species such as the breadfruit, coffee, banana and orange trees, cycads, ferns, orchids and bromeliads. Be sure to check out our Theobroma cacao tree, also known as a chocolate tree.
Desert Garden~ replicates the desert environment of the Southwest and includes such desert dwellers as the Saguaro cacti, fishhook barrel cactus, prickly pear, creosote bush, jojoba, and yucca, mesquite and ironwood trees.
Outdoors
Stroll through four gardens featuring a variety of ornamental grasses, rhododendrons, trees, shrubs and perennials.
Exploration Garden~ Our park includes scenic vistas and shaded pathways set among Midwestern trees, shrubs and seasonal plantings. Numerous benches and a small pond stocked with goldfish offer private spots for quiet conversation and reflection.
Terrace Garden~ This lovely brick terrace features seasonal plantings and Midwestern trees, along with the ambiance of a secluded, yet open plaza in the heart of the city.
Streetside Garden ~ features ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs and Midwestern trees. Look for Flora ~ a bronze statue that symbolizes the bounty of nature. Sculptor: Michigan artist Tony Frudakis.
Beverforden Garden~ features rhododendrons, azaleas, and other acid-loving plants
